1997 Nissan Altima

For its 1997 model, the Nissan Altima has few changes. The only major upgrade
is its stricter side-impact standards and minor adjustments on the trims. It still
hasn't done anything with its 2.4L 4 cylinder engine and transmission standards
were still the same as the earlier models. It has become a bit more roomy and
spacious, though.
Like the 1995 model, the 1997 Nissan Altima has four trim levels. All the models
have 2.4 liter 14 valve 4 cylinder engines. Except for the GLE that has a 4-speed
automatic transmission, all the models have a standard 5-speed manual transmission.
Standard safety features like dual air bags, automatic seat belt pretensioners,
side impact door beams, child safety locks, and front and rear crumple zones are
present on all models. However, the antilock brake system is standard for the
SE model only, and optional for the other models.
There are minor upgrades made with the trim levels. The basic XE have, as standard
features, dual air bags, power steering, 4-speakers AM/FM/cassette system, tilt
steering wheel, cruise control, intermittent wipers, rear window defroster, cup
holders, power windows, and 15 inches tires. The GXE provides added conveniences,
woodgrain trim, better cloth trim and air conditioning. The sporty SE model have
4 wheel disc brakes, antilock brake system, alloy wheels, rear spoiler, limited
slip front differential, and a stiffer suspension. The GLE provides the most luxury
and is also the only model equipped with 4-speed transmission.
The 1997 Nissan Altima, has generally expanded its interiors to provide more
room and comfort for the driver and the passengers. It has not improved its engine
to V6, but it still gives you a comfortable and smooth ride. And still it's the
most affordable in its kind, considering the luxuries you'll get.
