2002 Nissan Altima
In its 2002 model, the Altima is given a big boost in all areas including its
size, interiors, power, suspension, handling and safety features. It is now bigger
and roomier than the 2002 model. It also features a more powerful 4-cylinder engine
and a new V6 engine, both of which are considered superior in their respective
classes. The 2002 Nissan Altima now gives a better competition to its competitors,
the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord.
The 2002 Nissan Altima is bigger than the previous model. It increased 7 inches
in wheelbase and 5.7 inches in overall body length. The increase in size is accompanied
with an increase in space for its interiors. It now has a lengthier front and
rear legroom as well as a larger space for the headroom.
Along with the roomier interior come the improved interior features. The 2002
Altima comes with a sporty set of gauge. It also has an instrument panel that
includes an AM/FM/CD radio with integrated LCD clock, a heater/air conditioner
with three large dials, and an automatic climate control system with dials to
control the temperature. Standard features from previous models are still present
in the 2002 model.
For added power, the Altima comes in a standard 175 hp 2.5 liter DOHC 16 valve
4-cycle engine. It also introduces its new 240 hp 3.5 liter DOHC 24 valve V6 engine
as an option for its top model. Both engine are on the top of its class compared
to the 4 cylinder and V6 engines of the competitors. Aside from added power, the
2002 model also gives superior handling with the new fully independent suspension.
The 2002 Nissan Altima comes in four trim levels: 2.5, 2.5S, 2.5SL, and 3.5SE.
The 2.5, 2.5S, and 2.5 SL come with the 2.5 4-cylinder engine while the 3.5SE
comes with the 3.5 V6 engine. The 4-speed automatic transmission is standard except
for the base model. Standard safety features are present including 4-wheel disc
brakes although the antilock brakes are not configured for the base model.
